Since 2016 I have been using recycled wood almost exclusively for my substrates. The panel for Testament was cut from a thick hollow core door, and I decided to not fill the edges as I usually do. Check the detail, see if you like it.

Big Fish is from my series using multiple layers of painted vinyl. The surface is then shallowly etched with a laser cutter, and layers peeled away.

A balancing act of the linear and painterly.

The insistent linearity of this surface is dominated by just a few conical elements.
In this process layers of painted vinyl are incised, cut, and peeled, revealing earlier levels. In Antecedent I then backfilled some upper areas with plaster.

I like the play of the dusty wind, the strong whites and fainter curves.

When I was in high school, I loved the old images from cloud chambers. This is a recreation.

Acrylic on Sintra on panel : 23 x 26 : 2014
Framed with a simple, thin profile wood frame.
Clusters
Resin and plaster on panel : 22 x 22 : 2009
My “Clusters” series was born when I brushed resin over wire mesh, and discovered later it had formed a pattern in which order and chance were exquisitely balanced in an organic form. These works then submerge those patterns in transparent depths of pigmented resin, creating a window into deep sky or oceanic worlds.
Corrugators
Painted cardboard, pigmented resin ⋅ 22 x 30 ⋅ 2006
One of the last of the original Corrugators series.
Acrylic, plaster, and epoxy on Sintra, in steel frame. 16 x 38 inches 2012
In 2012, I revisited my earlier Corrugators process, but I built my own wavy surface by carving wet acrylic and plaster with a serrated squeegee. Layers of pigmented acrylic fluid were then applied, and finally a layer of epoxy to seal the work. All of these works are set in a custom built steel frame — a rugged contrast to the delicate color gradations of the painting.

Acrylic, plaster, and epoxy on PVC sheet on panel, in steel frame, 46 x 38 inches, 2012
In 2012, I revisited Corrugators, but built up corrugations by carving wet acrylic and plaster with a serrated squeegee. Layers of pigmented acrylic fluid were then applied, and finally a layer of epoxy to seal the work. All the works in this later series are set in a custom built steel frame — a rugged contrast to the delicate gradations of the undulating surface.
In Peripatat, I extended the process by cutting a large panel into small sections and rearranging them as a mosaic.

ORANGE! Often earlier iterations of the work are visible as overspill on the sides of the painting.
